It happens over and over again. Talent of all types compare, insult, bash and criticize other talent who happened to get a role they auditioned for, or got a job that was never even out in the public realm. Stop it! Envy, jealousy, having a bad day never helps you or your career by attacking another talent.
Instead of being negative, there’s some things you can do to improve your state of mind, because when it comes down to it, your are the one who is upset and the other talent doesn’t even know you exist.
- Observe the work the talent did that you wanted to have. Could you have done that work?
- Remember that the talent who worked the job to the script you also read still has to provide the correct performance to the brand and their directors. Frequently a script will be presented one way but the end product has a completely different feel and sound to what you auditioned for. This is not a talent’s fault, this is the direction they are provided during their booking.
- Grow up! Do you really think being snarky to your colleagues and or on social media is going to help you get a decent role with your attitude and negative vibes?
- Get a coach. Not any one talent knows it all or has their peformance mastered for every job. There are reputable coaches avaialable by remote or somethings in-person sessions. If you ever has a script you’re stumbling on or want to submit but can’t get the right feel, hire a qualified coach. Note, it is best to hire a coach who is the opposite sex of you so you know your coach isn’t auditioning for the same role that you are. There have been cases where the coach sidelines you to go the wrong direction so they end up looking better.
- Turn off the computer and phone and get outside to change your mental happiness.
Remember, nothing is a guarantee in the entertainment industry. Fewer talent are a success versus a failure. Keep yourself in a positive and eager to learn mindset.
