If You are a Voice Over talent, Actor, or Model, Stick to Your Job and Show Your Interest to Succeed

By Lisa Ristau

In the entertainment industry, there is always risk. It’s part of the challenge, to make it in this unknown  industry and have success and hopefully  work your way up the ladder.  There can frequently be obstacles in the way, lack of income, coaching, family, pandemics, shut-downs etc.  The best way to be true to yourself is to stick with what you know best and be flexible, flexible and again flexible.

Most of our talent who have the most desire to succeed and drive, bend over backwards to get a booking in their genre of skill.  These are the talent who will adjust their morning booking, if possible, to fit in the afternoon or evening booking to get another notice on that ladder.  I have had talent pull themselves out of their own events to honor a booking, sometimes in another state or country, just to commit to what they really want to do, which is succeed.  For voice over talent especially, they have the flexibility, if they choose to use it, to record from any location using their own equipment, which voice talent should carry wherever they go, or to find a local studio near their location, or even to make a pillow fort to sound proof their hotel room and set up to make their client happy.

Your drive determines your sucess in the entertainment industry.  The question to you is, do you have it?  Will you pull your 12 year old daughter out of a birthday party to be a co-star in a movie?  Will you show up late for a scheduled NBA play-off game to work a Voice of God project that needs you last minute?  Will you adjust your schedule for an out of town event, or make the effort to find a studio close to your event to accommodate a new client with an great voice over opportunity?  The answer should be a Yes for all of these situations without your representative having you pressure you, especially if you submitted for said project with interest from the beginning.
